The Project
To coincide with his trip to South Coast Correctional Centre, as part of the Unlocked program, rapper and spoken-word poet Nick Bryant-Smith (aka SOLO, and one half of the rap duo Horrorshow) will be taking part in a two-day workshop with YWCA Links to Learning groups at the end of August.
20 students from Shoalhaven High School and Nowra High School will take part of full day workshops over two days with Nick Bryant Smith. Working to his strengths as a hip-hop and rap artist, the students will analyse and respond to a selection of artists including Tupac, Aesop Rock and Horroshow. The students will then collaborate and rap and beatbox their own poetic inventions.
These poetry workshops are aimed at engaging students who are at risk of disengaging with formal education.
