The School

Silkwood is a private, government accredited school located in a stunning bushland setting in the Gold Coast Hinterland. The school caters for children from Prep to Year 12. Silkwood has a number of affiliations with Pre-Prep learning programs to support families with daycare prior to entry into Silkwood Prep.

Silkwood has developed The Silkwood Way, an educational approach that places individual student learning plans at the centre and uses student interest, innovative learning styles, flexible timetables and the Australian Curriculum to intentionally enhance every child’s learning adventure. The Silkwood Way provides an alternative to traditional schooling and progresses young people through a developmental and student-centred approach to learning with a focus on ‘learning how to learn’.

The Project

In July, poet Anisa Nanduala led year 7 students from Silkwood School through across two days of workshops mapping poetry to place through RR's interactive online project The Disappearing

Students explored ideas of place and, through poetry, engaged with the meaning or memory embedded within those places. With Anisa's support students composed, edited and prepared their poetic pieces for performance.
