St. John’s Grammar School, SA
Poetry Object, 2016
St John's Grammar School is a partnership of parents, students, staff and the Anglican Church. Students benefit enormously from the individually focussed education provided by their dedicated, passionate staff. Their picturesque Adelaide Hills setting provides unique, natural surroundings which enhance the wellbeing of students and staff alike.
Poetry Object 2016 commissioned poet Kathryn Hummel will lead a dynamic and participatory Poetry Object Workshop with Year 10 students from St. John’s Grammar School. Entitled The Poetics of Everyday, the workshop will lead students through a garden path of synonyms, synecdoches and sibilance in an exploration of objects and their power to make creative connections within and outside the classroom.
Kathryn Hummel is the author of Poems from Here, The Bangalore Set and the forthcoming non-fiction collection Broken Lines. Her diverse, award-winning poetry, fiction, non-fiction and photography has been published and performed throughout Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US and Asia, often in collaboration with musicians and fellow writers.
