Please note, this workshop is specifically for poets under 25

What can pop stars, reality TV, anime, memes, and cult classics teach us about poetry? How do we remix the culture we consume into poetic language that speaks with urgency, humour, and heart?

In this generative workshop for poets under 25, poet and performance-maker Andrew Sutherland invites you to explore the rich, chaotic archive of pop culture as a source of poetic inspiration. We’ll treat everyday media (high, low, nostalgic, cringe) as fertile ground for poems that subvert, celebrate, and complicate the world around us.

Expect prompts that borrow from your favourite lyrics, film scenes, TikToks, and TV. This is a workshop for anyone who finds poetry in fan edits, fashion blogs, or the fast scroll of your feed. Come ready to play and leave with new lines, new influences, and a renewed sense of what poetry can be.
