Eligibility

You must be 18+ and an Australian resident to submit work for the MAD Poetry anthology. Submissions are open to emerging poets:

  • who identify as having a lived experience of mental health issues/illness and all mental health consumers
  • have published no more than one collection of poetry with a commercial publisher

Terms and Conditions

  1. Entries must be the writer’s original and unpublished work (unless previously published by Red Room Poetry as part of the MAD Poetry project), and be in some way related to their own lived mental health experience
  2. Please place one poem in a Word document for consideration
  3. Poems can be up to 60 lines in length. Visual, concrete and non-text based poems can also be submitted
  4. All submissions will be read by the anthology editors. Thirty poems will be selected by the anthology editors for inclusion
  5. Editorial selections are final and due to the volume of submissions, individual feedback cannot be provided
  6. Contributors who are selected will receive an AU$100 publication fee for their poem as well as their poem being included in the print anthology
  7. Poems submitted must not infringe upon anyone’s copyright
  8. Poems that are deemed to be works of plagiarism will not be considered
  9. Copyright of the poem remains with the poet
  10. By submitting, you give Red Room Poetry permission to quote excerpts of all selected poems in our external communications
  11. All personal details provided will be collected in alignment with our Privacy Policy
  12. Poems will only be accepted between 1-31 October 2021 via our submission portal, accessed via the MAD Poetry homepage
  13. The submission portal opens 9am AEDT on Friday 1 October 2021 and closes 9pm AEDT on Sunday 31 October 2021

The aim of the MAD Poetry project is to share lived experiences of mental health via poetry. Therefore, some of the content may potentially trigger some readers.
