Access

Red Room Poetry makes poetry in meaningful ways. We are committed to ensuring that our programs are an inclusive and welcoming experience for all, and we work hard to remove barriers to participation for artists and audiences. Below is some information about how to access our online, hybrid and in-person events.

We would love to hear about your thoughts, ideas and experiences in relation to accessibility, and you are always welcome to contact us via access@redroompoetry.org or through our contact details here.

Hybrid Events

Auslan Interpretation

Auslan interpretation will be booked for key events including the National Poetry Month Gala and Victorian Poetry Month Gala. If you require either of these services for an event that is not listed, please make a note on the checkout page when you buy your ticket. Alternatively, contact us at access@redroompoetry.org and we would be happy to organise interpreting and or live captioning for the event/s you’d like to attend.

Online Events

Zoom

Most of our workshops are hosted on Zoom. Zoom is compatible with screen readers and gives access to Live Captioning. Access links will be provided beforehand. For more information about Zoom’s accessibility features click here.

YouTube

A number of events will be livestreamed to our YouTube channel with open captions. Access links will become available on event listing pages before the event along with live external transcripts. YouTube is compatible with screen readers, offers Dark theme and has keyboard shortcuts.

Facebook

We also livestream some events to our Facebook page with open captions. You can RSVP on Facebook to these events to receive a notification when the stream is live.

In-Person Venues

Information about all in-person venues will be provided on the event page, and requests can be made at the point of booking. If you have any specific questions or requests, you are always welcome to contact us via access@redroompoetry.org.

Wheelchair Access

Most of our events are wheelchair accessible and equipped with accessible toilets.

Accessible Parking

Venues with onsite parking will provide accessible parking near the front entry.

Hearing Loop

The hearing loop allows patrons who are wearing a hearing aid to tune in to the frequency of the venue. If you require hearing assistance, please let us know in the access request when booking your ticket.

Companion Cards

Companion Card holders receive a complimentary ticket to support people with a disability. Companion tickets must be booked at the same time as the purchased ticket.
