Opportunities for Poets

  • Nakata Brophy Short Fiction and Poetry Prize for Young Indigenous Writers recognises the talent of young Indigenous writers across Australia. First prize includes $5000, an optional writing residency at Trinity College, and publication of the successful piece in Overland — Closing Saturday, 27 July
  • The Hachette Australia Prize for Young Writers is open to to Australian secondary school-aged students across the nation — Closing Wednesday, 31 July
  • The Marrow is open for submissions for Issue Two, which will be published in October 2024 — Closing Wednesday, 31 July
  • Holmgren Design is thrilled to announce the launch of The 2024 Venie Holmgren Environmental Poetry Prize offering a major prize of AUD$1000 — Closing Sunday, 4 August
  • FAW Tasmania 2024 Beatrice Clarke Award for Young Poets 14 and under is accepting poems up to 40 lines - Closing Saturday, 13 August
  • FAW Tasmania 2024 Poetry Prize is accepting poems up to 60 lines, with a $150 first prize - Closing Saturday, 31 August
  • KSP Poetry Competition is accepting poems up to 50 lines - Closing Wednesday, 25 September
  • The Letter Review Prize for Poetry is accepting poetry up to 70 lines, with a prize pool of $1000 USD - Closing Tuesday, 1 October
  • Uplift is inviting poets, poetry groups, organisations, festival, publishers, journals or websites to join their community — Open for submissions, no closing date specified

  • Splinter: Writer SA has announced their new literary journal, Splinter, with submissions now open for its inaugural issue - Closing Monday, 22 July
  • Voiceworks is now open for submissions to issue #133 'Loaf' - Closing Sunday, 28 July
  • Rochford Street Review is calling for submissions as part of the 2024 Sonic Poetry Festival Rochford Press for Issue 9 of the literary magazine P76 on the theme 'Place/Displacement/Diaspora/Odyssey' - Closing Friday, 2 August
  • Creatrix Poetry is accepting submissions for up to two unpublished and original poems up to 60 lines - Ongoing

Residencies and Fellowships

  • The Hage Award for First Nations Writers, established by Sweatshop Literacy Movement, will provide income, mentoring and residencies for two emerging writers from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds to each develop their debut manuscripts - Closing Monday, 12 August
