  • The Tom Howard / Margaret Reid Poetry Contest is seeking published and unpublished poetry of 250 lines or less. Entry fee: $22 per submission. Closing Saturday 30 September
  • Blacktown Mayoral Creative Writing Prize is seeking poetry from adults and children aged 8 years and above. Closing midnight, Monday 2 October
  • ABR's Peter Porter Poetry Prize are calling for unpublished poems of 70 lines or less. Entry fee: $20/$30. Closing Monday 9 October
  • The Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prize for new and emerging poets is seeking poetry from poets who have published no more than one collection of poems under their own name. Entry fee: $12/$20. Closing Friday 20 October
  • The Robyn Mathison Poetry Prize is calling for poetry of 40 lines or less responding to the theme 'Shadows'. Entry fee: $10. Closing Tuesday 31 October
  • Short Stories Unlimited's Rural theme poetry competition is now open. Entry fee: $5. Closing Tuesday 31 October
  • ABPA's Bush Poetry Competition is now open. Entry fee: $15/$10. Closing Wednesday 1 November
  • Munster Literature Centre's Gregory O'Donoghue International Poetry Competition is open to poems of 40 lines or less. Entry fee: €7. Closing Thursday 30 November
  • Somerset Storyfest invites school-aged students to participate in their National Poetry Prize. Entry fee: $15. Closing Friday 1 December
  • The Blake Poetry Prize is calling for poems of 100 lines or less that have a religious or spiritual integrity. Entry fee: $30. Closing Monday 18 December
  • Dolors Alberola Poetry Prize is calling for poetry across the globe. Closing Sunday 31 December
  • The Moth Poetry Prize is open to anyone over 16 years of age. Entry fee: €15. Closing Sunday 31 December

  • Volume 5 of Heroines Anthology is calling for submissions of up to 3 pages of poetry that reimagines women in myth, fairy tale, folklore or legend, or poems that tell women's lost history or untold stories. Entry fee: $15. Closing Saturday 28 October

Laureate's

  • Sydney Review of Books are calling for applicants for The Parramatta Laureate in Literature. The Laureate will be a highly regarded writer (including short stories, long-form fiction, essays, poetry, creative non-fiction, memoir, theatre, YA fiction or a graphic novel) who has made an outstanding contribution to literature, is actively making new work, and ideally has connections to the Parramatta region. The inagural Pararamatta Laureate in Literature will be awarded $50,000. Closing Friday 20 October
