Writing in Resistance amplifies experiences of women silenced by Australia’s offshore detention system via poetry. In 2024, Writing in Resistance focuses on the performance of poems by women who have survived detention but continue to be denied access to education and social engagement.
Join us for a special roundtable conversation hosted by Senator Dr Mehreen Faruqi at 11am-12pm on 13 August at Parliament House Canberra. The event will feature three poets — Hodan Yasin, Aida Darabi and Seti Gholshani — as well as legal experts with moderation by the CEO of UN Women Australia Simone Clarke.
Curated by Dr Saba Vasefi, Writing In Resistance supports women and non-binary emerging writers to use poetry as a way to defy violence, racism and discrimination.
Presented with support from Ades Foundation, UTS, ANU, Create NSW, Creative Australia, and Kate Ogg.
