Aida Darabi, an 18-year-old Iranian refugee, was 7 years old when she, along with her parents, was detained on Christmas Island. Later, she was transferred to Nauru as a minor with her parents. In 2018, Aida’s declining health led the Australian Federal Court to order her and her mother’s evacuation to Sydney, where they were separated from her father, who stayed on Nauru. Aida received medical care at a children’s hospital in Sydney under the supervision of Serco officers.
