Rethinking Publishing in 2025: David Stavanger in Conversation with Writing NSW
Red Room Poetry’s co-Artistic Director unpacks the current state of poetry, publishing, and the power of going beyond the printed page at Writing NSW's First Friday.
In April, Red Room Poetry’s co-Artistic Director David Stavanger joined Writing NSW’s First Friday as a guest speaker — a monthly conversation series offering insights from across the literary and publishing world.
First Friday provides a space for emerging and established writers to connect with industry leaders and explore the many facets of professional writing.
David’s session offered a deep dive into the evolving poetry landscape in Australia. Since 2003, Red Room Poetry has worked to broaden the scope of where and how poetry lives — from printed anthologies to performances, educational programs, videos, audio works, social media platforms, and beyond. David spoke about the importance of embracing non-traditional publishing models, reaching new audiences, and creating sustainable pathways for poets working across mediums.
Whether you’re a poet, writer, or simply poetry-curious, this conversation is full of useful provocations and perspectives on where the art form is in 2025.
