John West
John West works full time as a nurse in a large rehabilitation hospital in Melbourne and writes many poems about people he meets there, although his family is an even more important source of material. His most recent poetry collection is Modest Lives (Wagtail 34) and Picaro Press published his chapbook, Walking Amongst Women. His poem 'I Like People' (below) won the 1998 Melbourne Poets' Poetry Competition. He has also won the Victorian Cancer Council Poetry Prize and has had poems commended in other competitions, including the Newcastle Poetry Prize.
