The Key

As free as a bird in a cage,
You have trapped me.
And thrown away the key.
The key to my happiness,
To my life. So that I am flying in circles,
Going nowhere. Achieving nothing.
You have taken over,
Like the co-pilot of a plane,
When the captain loses control.
But I hadn't lost it.
I knew what I was doing;
I know what I am doing.
Maybe it will be different this time,
Maybe I can change.
You cannot know unless you try.
So unravel this cocoon of your protection,
Untie this chain of your love.
Open the door, release me.
Trust that I won't fly away.
But if I do,
Trust that it is for the best.
Let go of the past.
Let go of your fear.
Let go of my hand.
Free us both.
From each other.
You have the key.
