"It’s about what and who the object represents" – Pola Fanous
The object I chose to write my poem about is a bookmark, but not just any old bookmark. It’s a bookmark my girlfriend made for me, by hand. It incorporates pressed flowers she picked herself, from Italy and from Katoomba… the white flower is really special to me for a reason I can’t say.
I use this bookmark every time I read, moving it from book to book, and so it made sense to write about it. This poem isn’t just about an object though, it’s about what and who the object represents. I won’t give away what the poem means, I want you to unpack the richness of it yourself. I will say this though: my girlfriend paints, the bookmark is a metaphor and balance is important… Enjoy!
