I have wanted a cat since before I left the womb. I must tell you that first, before I tell you that poetry is what I do for fun. Poetry is what I’d do always if I was free for the length of my days. Poetry is how I process being in the world — how I capture my joy or obsession or anticipation. There was a time when poetry was my biggest joy. These days my joy is in the hours away from work — in the cradle of my home, in the two little cats who smell like sawdust perched at my feet. My poetry makes nothing happen, but it captures the things I love. And that’s good enough.
