An evening melody

This is an evening song for you.
I know it’s difficult to be simple.
This is an evening song for you -
Like the moon in the water,
I wrote it for you.
Don’t look at the evening news,
Let me share the world with you.
Come out and watch the moon,
Something new has begun.
For us again into the dark,
And into dreams,
Let’s meet again.
This is an evening song for you.
I know it’s difficult to be patient.
This is an evening song for you -
Like the birds sings the sky,
I wrote it for you.
Don’t look at the evening news,
Come out and watch the birds,
Return to their homes.
Something new has begun.
Sip a glass of chang*,
And into dreams,
Let’s meet again.
This is an evening song for you.
I know it’s difficult to be sincere,
This is an evening song for you,
Like the mountains whispering,
I wrote it for you.
Don’t look at the evening news,
Come out and watch children play,
Into the shadow of the sunset,
Listen to the mountains in the distance,
Something new has begun,
And into dreams,
Let’s hear them again.
This is a song I wrote.
I know it is difficult to be simple,
Patient and sincere.
I have many thoughts,
I wish you could see.
The Universe is sitting -
Sitting on a back of a single thought.
I wish you could see them all.
This is a song,
A song I wrote for you.

Poet reflection
It was the 24th of May when my friend Anne-Marie Te Whiu graciously asked me to write a poem for the Red Room Poetry’s Poetry Month. A full-moon was just around the corner, and with each passing evening I’d hear more disheartening news both home and abroad. I worried for my friends in India and elsewhere as global health worsened. However, with this special full-moon, a glimmer of hope on the horizon, I thought that I could write a piece for my friends across the world. Dedicated to every soul around the globe who saw that same moon, from Delhi to New York, Lhasa, London, Libya or Timbuktu.
