Listening to Whales Activity
This image by Aguasonic Acoustics was produced by converting the sound frequencies of a humpback whale song into a graph using a mathematical process known as wavelets.
Activity:
1. Take a moment to listen to the whale song recordings from the Baraya Barray ~ Whale Song archive, focusing on the intricate rhythms, pitches, patterns, consonants, clicks, and swooping vowel sounds.
2. As you immerse yourself, write down any emotions, colors, images, textures, or specific words that come to mind, allowing the music and sonority to guide your thoughts. Try to translate the whale vocalizations into your own language.
3. Craft a poem from your oceanic translations.
