Workshops for every poet, everywhere
Our much-loved online workshops series returns, bringing poets at the height of their craft to you, wherever you write. Designed for both seasoned sonneteers and fresh formalists, this year's weekly workshops series features celebrated international poets - author of seven collections of poetry and the craft book Finger Exercises for Poets, and co-author with Kim Addonizio of The Poet's Companion: A Guide to the Pleasures of Writing Poetry Dorianne Laux (US) and author of more than 12 books of poetry, as well as a graphic novel and an award-winning book of Māori legends for children Robert Sullivan (Ngāpuhi, Kāi Tahu, NZ) to celebrate New Zealand’s Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day.
We’re also running a workshop dedicated to poets under 25 hosted by lawyer, poet and co-founder and Artistic Director of the Bankstown Poetry Slam Sara Mansour, an accessible workshop for writers with Disability in partnership with Writeability presented by Winner of the 2022 ALS Gold Medal and the Prime Minister's Award for Poetry Andy Jackson and a chance to brush up your submission to the upcoming Middle of the Air lyrics writing competition with not one but two award-winning musicians - hiphop artist DOBBY and folk musician Leah Senior. Plus, join us for two free digital schools workshops during National Science Week as part of Poem Forest with Tyson Yunkaporta.
Whether this is your first foray into writing poetry, or you’re a career poet looking to brush up on your skills, these sessions will provide fresh creative inspiration, techniques and pathways into poetry. Join us for one or all sessions - and be sure to book early as these sessions tend to sell out!

Poem Forest Schools Workshops
Poem Forest is a free nature writing program and prize that breathes life back into the natural world that sustains us. Created by Red Room Poetry, in partnership with Wollongong City Council, Poem Forest invites students and teachers to use their words to make positive climate action.
For every nature poem received, a tree is planted to help heal habitats and create a Poem Forest for future generations. Since 2021, over 22,800 poem trees have been planted.
