A Piece of Luck

Its coarse, rough texture sits in my hand
Looking up at me
Wishing me good luck
A coin as small as the dust on the earth
Yet a heart as big as the monsters in my nightmares
Rust rolling behind it
Along with memories of all my relatives that is has cared for
Helping them
Fighting their fears
The smell of metal, masked over it
Rounded, like a ring
Promising to be there forever
Chasing away any kind of worry
Heart breaking to let go of
As it gets passed down, to the next generation
