Beach Shells

A scattering of iridescent pearls line the shore
Sparkling with the morning sun
and the glimmer of the crystal-clear water.
Each one has its own story
Its own tale, its own journey
To tell to whoever stops and chooses to listen.
Put one to your ear.
Hear the crashing waves
Hear the songs that mermaids sing
Hear the mysterious sea
Its surface as smooth as green jelly,
full of secrets.
Seashells, oh seashells
Scatter the shore
With no organisation or place anymore
For a wave comes ashore
A banquet of colours, simply galore.
Feel along the inside and outside
Glossy and smooth, gentle sweeping curves
Bumpy and ridged, pearlescent beauty
Perfect home for a hermit crab passing by
Or a miniature clam in need of a shell to occupy
Or even a tiny sea snail as a place to beautify
Each offers a home, a shelter, a place to stay
To the creatures of the ocean who exist in this way.
