They live in the South-West of Australia,

Found around the mulga woodlands and eucalypts.

They shelter in large, fallen hollow logs,

Or beneath the barky rocky ground they burrow.

They have a small, slender, rangy body,

With a tapered pointed snout and bristly tail.

Short and stiff hair, grey to reddish brown,

Distinct stripes of black and white upon their back.

Predated by introduced foxes and wild cats,

Aggravated by habitat loss and land clearing.

Losing their homes, their safe place, their respite,

Continually running, hiding, escaping danger.

Woylies, chuditch, and Western ringtail possums,

They all live together, endangered.

Conservation is important as it’s Western Australia’s emblem,

Keep supporting the efforts of all to safeguard the Numbat.
