Over & Over Again

The animals are dying, more than 1000 species in one year,
Going, going, gone just another statistic our children must bear,
Some of them roar, some of them claw, some slither and many soar
Screaming for help with nowhere to run,
begging for mercy from fires, land clearing and guns,
Screaming and screeching with eyes full on sorrow,
the forests are scattered with near-ghosts of tomorrow,
“BANG” there goes their homes crashing down,
as we make way for another road, farm or town,
As we say goodbye to our animal kingdom,
thanks to progress from third to first world nations,
With the smell of smoke in our nostrils, and the foul taste of fear,
no animal is safe, although some of us still shed a tear,
Oh, how I wish we reacted when we had a chance,
now to a grim future we advance,
Man's time extending but theirs on decline,
the loss of each animal species
will our world refine
But out of the black a mother and a cub appear to escape,
maybe a chance for the world to reshape,
A new offshoot of hope that may stop this global drain,
until tomorrow when we do it over and over again.
