1930 the World Cup’s just done
England haven’t played
“Too good” for that South American scum
Instead they play against Scotland
The big game at Hampden Park
But on 30 minutes the Scots score
The Blues are off the mark
Though in the second half England come back
If there’s a ball in the air they’ll win the scrap
They pass the ball around the pitch
‘til Smithies gets the ball and scores with a flick
4-1 at full time England win with ease
So they sit down and celebrate with a slice of cheese
The players all line up to get their caps
Who knew 90 years later
It would be hanging in our room out the back
And that I would always remember that day wet as the north sea
The path to glory of the England team
