The native koala hangs on a big, green, gum tree,

waiting for the correct time to devour my eucalyptus leaves.

The active koala daggers both its claws to scamper onto their very own tree.

For me, I am a marsupial, native to Australia, proud to be the only representative of the family.

Roughing it out in the wild, I may be young, but I have enough to spare.

Some people think a koala is a bear, so here’s a story we’d like to share.

Born down under - that’s Australia to us.

Don’t make a fuss!

Marsupial is what we are related to.

Those kangaroos hopping around in the zoo.

We carry our heavy babies in our very own pouch.

Don’t talk much or even say “ouch”!

Koalas have fuzzy ears and a cute black nose.

Our skin colour is grey and we have five toes.

We like to roam in the dark of night.

But lately our homes have been removed out of sight.

Due to fires, floods and humans on tractors.

We shiver at night for fear that we may disappear.
