My ears and eyes are as alert as those of a cat
waiting for its prey to make a mistake
that would cost it its life.

My enemy is near.
I can feel him stalking me, skulking behind shadows
I can hear him wading through the slump hole.

He has arrived.

I look at this weapon, about to explode in my hand.
Nervously I pull the pin quickly, take aim
then throw.

Puff! Bang! Owww!
The faded yellow sponge ball, the size of a grenade
finds its target:
my brother.

This pecked at and scorched ball
is how I remember him.
When I look down,
I see him in my palm.
