Staging the long narrative poem
Whose voices do you hear when you come to the page?
Join Grace Yee, author of Chinese Fish (Giramondo, 2023), winner of the Victorian Prize for Literature, the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Poetry, and the Mary and Peter Biggs Award for Poetry at the 2024 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards in this interactive workshop focused on staging long narrative poems.
This workshop will explore characterisation and voice, scene-setting and polyphony in poetry, and attendees will get the most value if you have a narrative in mind such as a rough story sketch, characters and setting to work with in the workshop. Suitable for all experience levels.
Presented in partnership with New Zealand’s Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day and the New Zealand Book Awards Trust.
Red Room Poetry is assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body, and by the NSW Government in association with Create NSW. This event is supported by the Australian Government through the International Cultural Diplomacy Arts Fund, the British Council, the City of Sydney, and the Copyright Agency's Cultural Fund.
Tickets are Pay what you wish, with a suggested sliding scale of $10 unwaged / $20 waged / $30 solidarity. Help us keep our online workshops going, and consider making a donation.
