Talk by Dr Michael Griffith for Dural & District Historical Society: The Life and Poetry of Francis Webb. Les Murray described Francis Webb as ‘one of Australia’s greatest poets’. Judith Wright also praised his work. Francis Webb spent some time in the 1950s living with his sister in Galston and came to love our bushland and history. He wrote a quartet of poems set in the area that immortalise memories such as the Black’s horse-drawn bus rushing through the Gorge, the horrors of bush fire and the beauty of Foster’s Waterhole. Dr Michael Griffith is a retired university lecturer in English, Australian and American literature. His PhD on Francis Webb was published in a book God’s Fool. All welcome.
