Celebrate Poetry Month as the National Gallery and Red Room Poetry join forces to champion the works of Australian poets and artists.

For this exclusive Friday Art Talk collaboration, we will premiere live two new ekphrastic commissions created by two of Australia’s most compelling creative voices, each responding to works of art featured in the National Gallery’s Australian Art: Highlights of the Collection.

Join Ellen van Neerven (Mununjali Yugambeh with Dutch heritage), multi-award winning author, editor, poet and recipient of the 2024 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction, alongside celebrated multidisciplinary artist and local favourite Jacqui Malins, winner of the Canberra Critic's Circle Award and former finalist of the Australian Poetry Slam, as they discuss the use of the Collection as a springboard and inspiration for new work.

Note: Because acoustics can often be a challenge and to ensure the audio quality for the gig, the audience will be wearing Silent Disco headsets for this event.

Presented in partnership with NGA.

Tickets: This is a free drop-in event. Bookings are not required, but capacity is limited. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
