Australian poetry’s night of nights returns

Poetry Month

The National Poetry Gala will be held harbourside in Sydney on Fri 4 August with host Benjamin Law, Stella Prize winner Sarah Holland-Batt, ABC TV’s Jennifer Wong, poet Jazz Money and hip-hop artist L-Fresh the Lion, as well as special guest Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke.

Held at the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s venue beside Sydney Harbour Bridge, this year’s Gala features some of our finest contemporary poets including Sara Saleh, Freya Daly Sadgrove and Rebecca Shaw, Red Room Poetry Fellow Charmaine Papertalk Green, and a musical performance by First Nations choir Mudjingaal Yangamba.

The evening will also include well known poetry lovers reading contemporary Australian poems (more to be announced soon.)

The National Poetry Gala is the headline event of Poetry Month 2023 which runs throughout August. Poetry Month features live events in every capital city, state and territory and is produced by Red Room Poetry - Australia’s leading poetic organisation for commissioning and showcasing contemporary poetry celebrating 20 years this year.
