Brendan Ryan grew up on a farm at Panmure, Victoria. He has worked in many occupations including driving delivery vans around the suburbs of Melbourne. He has also been a taxi driver. He currently lives in Portarlington and teaches at a secondary college in Geelong. He has had three collections of poetry published: Why I am Not a Farmer (2000), A Paddock In His Head (2007), shortlisted for the 2008 ACT Poetry Prize, and A Tight Circle (Whitmore Press, 2008). Brendan has also had poems and essays published in the Age, Australian Book Review, Island, HEAT, Meanjin and The Best Australian Poetry (2004 and 2007). In 2007, he was awarded the Longlines Residency at Varuna.
