Emma Stewart
Cultural Educator • Artist • Song Woman • Language Practitioner
Emma Stewart is a proud Bidjigal and Gweagal woman with kinship connections to the Eora, Dharawal, Darug, Yuin and Gundungurra Nations. Living and creating on Djirringanj Country on the far south coast of NSW, Emma is a Cultural Educator, Artist, Song Woman and Language Practitioner whose work is deeply grounded in connection to Country, Ancestors, culture and community healing.
Through her business Jirribitti Dreaming, Emma shares Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and healing through culturally grounded workshops, language revitalisation, song, storytelling and creative practices. Her work creates spaces for connection, reflection and cultural strengthening while honouring the continuing knowledge systems of Aboriginal people.
Emma’s creative practice is strongly influenced by the shellwork traditions of her family from La Perouse, continuing a cultural practice passed through generations of Aboriginal women. Through shellwork, weaving, natural materials, rhythm, song and cultural storytelling, her work carries stories of connection, resilience, belonging and healing.
Passionate about language revitalisation, Emma incorporates Aboriginal language, song and cultural teachings into her workshops and creative projects, supporting the sharing and continuation of living culture for future generations.
Alongside her artistic and cultural practice, Emma delivers workshops, yarning circles and healing programs that support wellbeing, creativity and deeper connection to Country, community and self. Her work reflects the importance of slowing down, listening deeply and maintaining reciprocal relationships with the land, waters and cultural knowledge systems that guide her practice.
