Gary Watling is a proud Wiradjuri man, musician, composer, and musical director.

A graduate of Southern Cross University with a Bachelor of Contemporary Music (Performance), he has made a name for himself as a virtuoso Guitarist and Pedal Steel player. As an in-demand session player, his soundtrack credits including ‘The Last Daughter’, ‘Wild Dog’ and ‘Guuranda’. Gary has served as Musical Director and Co-Composer on acclaimed theatrical works such as Australian Dance Theatre’s ‘Tracker' and ILBIJERRI Theatre Company’s ‘Big Name No Blankets’ and ‘Heart Is a Wasteland’, which saw him win a Green Room Award (2023). Gary has since furthered his musical studies and knowledge by obtaining a Master's degree in Music (Performance Teaching) and Teaching (Secondary) at Melbourne and Monash Universities respectively and in 2023 he was selected for the Ngarra-Burria First Peoples Composers Program.
