Burri burri yanggum, burri burri gali, burri burri miru
I always was, I always am, I always will be
Close your eyes and listen
yindi ngaa goori, yindi ngara mubera
Grandfather sings a melodic song in a language I’ve yet to know
triggering memories, shedding light on the shadows
Coz you can’t move forward until you face the past
you need to unmask and release the façade
Burri burri yanggum, burri burri gali, burri burri miru
I always was, I always am, I always will be
Close your eyes and listen
yindi ngaa goori, yindi ngara mubera
Seeking comfort in Gadu’s healing embrace
a family of southern right whale’s meet me at my sacred place
holding space, they wrap me in love and reassurance.
They linger for a few weeks and everyday I visit
our spirits yarn and sing.
Then when they move on, so do I
packing my swag, I say goodbye to everything I once knew
Taking on their wisdom
let go
coz ya can’t heal in the same place that made you sick
Burri burri yanggum, burri burri gali, burri burri miru
I always was, I always am, I always will be
Close your eyes and listen
Yindi ngaa goori, Yindi ngara mubera
Even from this dry Country I dream of the whales
they remind me it’s all one big journey and I haven’t failed
Keep pushing forward, despite sometimes feeling lost and alone
Just trust that when the time is right you’ll circle back home
to visit and remember
Burri burri yanggum, burri burri gali, burri burri miru
I always was, I always am, I always will be
Close your eyes and listen
Yindi ngaa goori, Yindi ngara mubera
