Poetry is storytelling. And for me a good story is priceless. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really come to appreciate just how precious stories are. I find pure joy in the sharing and collecting of stories as they are passed on from person to person. A good story will take us back to a very particular moment. It will transport us to that time and place, as our imagination recreates the scene so we can feel and experience that moment as if we were in the shoes of the storyteller. In that way, poetry is beyond time. It’s a way of bringing together the countless generations of humanity. It’s a means of connecting past and present. It’s a way of imagining the future. In its entirety, it is formless - to be shaped and moulded by the storyteller. When I think of it in that way, to me, poetry is special.
