I used to envy your life

Lazing by the fire, Not a worry in the world

No bills, no stress.

A cosy bed

At my feet with those brown eyes

Looking up at me for snacks

Learning to come, sit, stay

What fun we had in the park

Trying to teach you to fetch

When you’d rather run away and be chased

Your concern if I lagged behind

Your loyalty, love,

Unconditional.

I am so sorry....

The decision was agonising

But I saw your pain, I didn’t want you to suffer

But I never knew

What it would be like

To see the life drain from your eyes

To hold your still warm body

I miss you, Zac!
