Susie Anderson

Susie Anderson writes toward the meeting place of land and language. She has been published in print and online for places like Growing Up Aboriginal in Australia, Meanjin, Australia Poetry, Voiceworks, Artist Profile, Artlink, NGV and more. Her first book, the body country, uses poetry to consider the body’s role in cultural reconnection and was an outcome of the black&write! prize. Published with Hachette it was shortlisted for 2023 Premier’s awards in NSW and Victoria. In 2025 Susie was a resident at Creative Australia’s BR Whiting Studio in Rome to work on her first fiction project and an extract of her novel-in-progress won the Overland Nakata Brophy Short Story prize. She’s currently part of the Sydney Review of Books Emerging Critics program and works as Editorial Manager for Blue Art Journal. A Wergaia/Wemba Wemba women who grew up in regional Victoria, she is based between Gariwerd and Naarm.
