Tim Heffernan

Tim Heffernan is a Deputy Commissioner with the NSW Mental Health Commission and has worked for over a decade as a Mental Health Peer Worker.

Tim was awarded the 2016 joanne burns prize for his prose poem ‘barunga conversations’ and shortlisted in 2015 for ‘butterflies in iraq’. He is co-editor, with Alise Blayney, of Verity La’s, ‘Clozapine Clinic – The Frater Project.’ With Alise he also established Mad Poetry as part of the 2016 Wollongong Writers Festival. Mad Poetry also featured in the 2017 Queensland Poetry Festival.  Tim has collaborated with Iraqi poet Haider Catan in projects with the Red Room Company’s Lyrikline, and most recently in Verity La’s Discoursing Diaspora.

Tim was first published in 1985 in the Wagga Daily Advertiser. He has appeared in Thylazine, Cordite, Eureka Street, Blackmail Press, Red Room Poetry and Verity La. He has most recently been published in Australian Poetry, Rabbit and Plumwood Mountain.
