Returning to where it all started!
Dillwynia Correctional Centre is a medium security correctional centre for women on the outskirts of Sydney. Staff and inmates of the centre took part in the launching of the Unlocked program in 2010, which due to its success the programme successfully has entered its fifth year.
In 2012, Red Room poets Johanna Featherstone, Gareth Jenkins and Ali Cobby Eckermann returned to Dilwaynia to run workshops with a specific focus on Indigenous students. Identification was a big topic in the workshops; the importance of finding or developing an identity, especially for Indigenous Australians, and the role that poetry can play in that process.
