A season is green, white, golden, ochre.
It changes, and changes us.
A season's tears invade the land
Then sunlight mocks our spirits.
Lightning strikes - a stock-whip sound
On a buffalo's black.
All hope is burnt, but we come alive.
The Jabiru flies.
~ John B. Fairfax, AO from 'Jaibu'
In 2010 and 2011, The Red Room Company was invited by the Minister assisting the Premier on the Arts, Virginia Judge, to host a NSW Parliament Poetry Soirée. The 2010 event featured extended, guest readings by two of Australia's best poets, Judith Beveridge and David Malouf. The 2011 featured poets Robert Adamson and Ivy Ireland, before an audience of poetry-loving pollies and poets from the body politic, who also read out their favourite poems, or for the more adventurous, some of their own compositions.
