Inspiring the creation of nature poems by students and teachers.

The Poem Forest Prize supports positive climate action by inviting students and teachers to write poems inspired by nature. For every poem received a native tree is planted on Dharawal and Wodi Wodi Country in Wollongong to increase canopy cover, create habitat and strengthen communities for generations.

What's inside this resource?

Our curriculum-aligned 2025 Poem Forest Learning Resource is designed to help students and teachers delve into the rich, layered theme of Understory and find inspiration for writing poems connected to Country. Filled with creative activities, poetic devices, poems and case studies, this resource supports deep learning across Sustainability, First Nations cultures and histories, English, and Science — encouraging students to notice the often unseen, explore ecological connections, and give voice to the quieter layers of the world around them. It features location-specific examples from across Australia, highlighting unique plants, animals, and biodiversity, alongside explorations of climate impacts and meaningful calls to action that students can engage with in their own communities.
