What is Ekphrasis?
The word ekphrasis is a technical term to describe a poem that is in conversation with an artwork. Traditionally, this involved ornate statues and expensive paintings; however, contemporary versions of ekphrasis also incorporate pop culture references. By engaging with ekphrasis, your students will develop a deeper understanding of the visual languages of poetry. This resource was developed in collaboration with the National Gallery of Australia.
