As heat blares my face,
I think about what a hot place!
In the corner of my eye,
I spotted a small little guy.
What was he, a rat with a hat?
But someone pointed out that it's a numbat!

It was darting all over the place,
Not stopping like in a chase.
Then a fox appeared ready to pounce,
I was afraid, could I stop this bounce?
In a split moment I ran in front,
Making it have time to escape the hunt.

Less than 1000 left,
Living in the south-west.
They are endangered,
And they must be savoured.
Cats and foxes are the problem,
So get up off your bottom.
Go do something to save them,
As they are more than just a gem.
