A hole in my heart

I woke to the sound of the doctors moving around me.
My parents were near, Dad in the old green chair, Mum leaning over me.
They gave me the bear
It cuddled its arm around me and wouldn’t let go
Now…
The bears words have faded over time as my heart heals
‘’Shannon, get well soon chicken!’’
‘’Hope everything goes well, party when you get back’’
Dirt collected from sitting up on my shelf
Faded yellow from looking across my room out the window
Only young yet I still to this day remember the day I was in hospital as if it was yesterday
The kindergarten I played at when I was well again
My bear helping fill the hole in my heart.
