The seasons start... Warm weather arrives. Birak, season of the young. Fledglings venture out. Hot easterly winds. Bunuru, plants are blooming. Cool westerly noons. Djeran, wet mornings. The banksia plants flower. Flying ants go crazy. Blue, cold makaru. Youngars provide bookars, meat. Marli comes, rivers. Yellow wattles bloom. Dijlba is finaly here. Magpies are swooping. Kangaroo paws bloom. Friendly lives, we eat damper. Kambarang, snakes wake. ... round and round, and back to the end to go around again.
The Noongar words used for the seasons, flora and fauna come from Kurongkurl Katitjin, Edith Cowan University’s Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research.
