Sandalwood, the grandfather of insects

Centuries old, resting in red desert

Broad leaved and spindly. Woody, spicy.

Hive of life under the canopy

Oasis. Shelter to fauna that

Borrows, begs, steals, from neighbours.

Loved by fauna, cared by flora.

But, the scents allure caused its demise.

Once lush habitats that thrived have

Fallen to greed. In its place a

Materialist want for beauty.

Industry destroyed a lifeline

Grandfather whose lived lengths of time.

Ripped from dry, soil of rough terrain

Leaving creatures that call him home

On arid land, orphaned by greed.
