Slithering, gliding, creeping

As the warm water brushes against its thick slimy skin

The water glistens in the sunlight.

The eels create their nightlight.

As they inject poisonous fluid into their prey.

They will hunt again another day.

As they rest on a rock.

They can forget about the shock.

Going to the beach expecting to find smooth sand

Clear from litter.

But the scene of the lifeless snakes laying on the beach is bitter.

They have been pulled in with litter for each.

All those lives at risk just because a person did not pick up a piece of litter

Because they are bitter

When night arrives it's time to hunt.

The short nosed snake catches them with a stunt.

They are as fast as lightning

It's so frightening
