Teeth pierce the blanket skin of the hare

Soft warm smells seep into my nose and I savour them

Trudging through thick white snow

Mother’s spotted black and white fur catches my eyes

Excited purrs fill my ears

As I sink into the feather-covered stone

My belly full, My paws warm

Home is safe

Indistinct mutters

Unearthly smells

Fill my sleepy body to the brim

Open my eyes and let them adjust to the darkness

Around me, black and white pelts rise and fall

In front of me, a group of twolegs stood inside my cave

I let out a hiss

They pulled out metal sticks

I see it then hear it then feel it

And then I feel nothing

Home is no longer safe
