Lifting it off the shelf
Being engulfed by words

Wading through waters
Of pitch-black ink

Ripping off the protective cover
Diving deep in the lake of font size 12

Feeling so far away
Even though I am sitting in my own home

Listening for footsteps, flicking off
the lights, slipping under the covers

Grabbing a torch
Continuing my battle with the pages

Soaking in the sunlight
During this starless night

Laughing and crying
As the end draws near

Flipping that final fatal page
Sliding it back onto the shelf

Saying farewell to my companions
For that long night
