Flying across the water
On top of the world
But then a corner
A small mistake
A fall
And pain
Unexplainable pain
Like being stabbed with millions of needles
I’m sinking down
My arms are dead
My legs are dead
But I won’t give up
I force my legs to kick
But all I see is darkness
I am a well-oiled machine
Clinging to hope like a lost child
And there it is…
Light ….

I’m at the surface…
Breathing air that is so sweet
An addictive drug
And I can’t get enough…
My lungs are burning, silently begging for air
They won’t cooperate
They want more
They need more
I try to shout
But my words are jelly
Warm hands
They hold me
Tell me I’m OK
And then the mask
The mask that breathes life
It’s so sweet
So, nice
So, good
