Bushfires

I see the smoke rising to the sun
It's black and polluting colour blocking the cheerful light
I see the sparks dancing in the wind
The light breeze causing the embers to soar
I see the threat devouring all in its path
The flames licking up the land
I see the roaring fire creeping closer, inch by inch
A force oh so powerful, it seems unstoppable
I see animals fleeing from the blazing flame
Their bodies tinged and smoky
I see a flash of lightning, relief is in sight
Little droplets of rain falling smothering out the bright red light
I see our village covered in a blanket of ash
All the buildings now streaked with soot
I see faces turned towards what was once a lush, green forest
Now empty and bare
I see the people working together digging and planting
Rebuilding our forest, rebuilding our community
