Cable Beach Quokkas

A fluffy brown body emerges from the shadows,
then suddenly a wombat-like face.
Then the two fluffy arms and legs.
Finally the wriggly worm like tail.
The Cable Beach quokkas scramble under the palm tree's leaves.
Snoring under the bright sun as the selfie kings nibble on fresh, green grass.
Suddenly, their breath becomes minty and the cold breeze fills the air.
I lay on the grass watching them sing in the sun.
Every minute flicking past me, checking if I am okay.
It appears to be a powerful panic, like a bull knocking a gate.
The street is empty and the quokkas are gone.
Everyone is devastated.
